The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm have confirmed they will create two permanent Star Wars experiences at Disneyland in Anaheim, California and at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida.

The two sites promise to be Disney’s largest ever single-themed land expansions, each spanning 14 acres. They will represent a never-before-seen planet, a remote trading port and one of the last stops before the fantasy world’s ‘wild space’.

The lands will also include two signature attractions – an immersive Star Wars battle and the ability to take the controls of the Millennium Falcon on a customised secret mission.

Disney has not announced an opening date for either lands.

The announcement was made at Disney fan event D32 Expo 2015 by the company’s chief executive Bob Iger.

He said: "I am thrilled to announce the next chapter in the long and exciting history between Disney Parks and Star Wars.

"Through each new attraction and new land we create, we push the boundaries of what is possible. And as you can imagine, with Star Wars, we are taking that to a whole new level, with a whole galaxy to explore."

A number of other activations have been put in motion ahead of new the Star Wars episode, The Force Awakens. The Star Wars Launch Bay interactive experience will open this year in Florida and California, while new fan event Season of the Force will debut in early 2016 at Disneyland park’s Tomorrowland.

Global brands signed by Lucasfilm to support the film’s launch include Covergirl, MaxFactor, Duracell, HP and Subway.
