Mobile World Congress (MWC) took place from 2-5 March at the Fira Gran Via in Barcelona, Spain for the tenth year. Attendance numbers were the highest on record, with delegates arriving from 200 countries.
More than 2,100 companies including Ericsson, Android and Ford showcased their organisations via exhibition stands and hospitality spaces across nine halls and outdoor spaces. Hall 8.0 was "vastly" expanded for 2015 as the Theatre District, while GSMA showcased new Connected Living innovations at its Innovation City.
Keynote speakers from brands such as Huawei, Nokia and Wikipedia presented at more than 40 conference sessions throughout the four-day event. The Mobile World Live Keynotes from Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and chairman of the Federal Communications Commission Tom Wheeler were held on the first and second day, and were live-streamed around the globe through a dedicated website.
Ten themed networking gardens were positioned around the venue, where guests could chat informally and enjoy the Spanish sun. The 'My MWC Event' app was also developed to connect attendees, find new partners and hold meetings throughout the event.
Outside of meetings, guests could add to a graffiti wall sponsored by Cisco and compete against against eachother through Etermax’s app, Trivia Crack. More than 30 children from around the world were also invited to participate in the Mobile Explorers’ Club, which gave kids the chance to participate in a number of activities led by partners and sponsors.
John Hoffman, chief executive of GSMA, said: "As we celebrate the 10th anniversary of Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, we are gratified by the record-breaking success we’ve seen this year. It’s been a tremendously exciting show, with many major device launches, discussion and debate on the future of our industry and demonstrations of the cutting-edge products and services that customers are enjoying now and will experience in the future.
"The industry has advanced significantly over the past decade and we look forward to the many new developments that the next ten years will surely hold."
GMSA has announced the 2016 MWC will take place on 22-25 February at the same venue. MWC Shanghai is taking place in China on 15-17 July.
