Global: Samsung takes public on VR shark dive stunt

Samsung Electronics Australia launched the Samsung Gear virtual reality headset with a campaign inviting the unsuspecting public to 'dive' with sharks.

Promoting the Gear VR's ability to immerse users completely into another world, Samsung, working together with Leo Burnett Sydney, bulit a pop-up diving shop at the end of February in Alice Springs in Australia, miles away from any water.

Visitors to the pop-up were encouraged to don Gear VR headsets, which gave them the impression of being underwater and experience life up-close and personal with great white sharks. Their reactions were filmed and the footage was then shown in Samsung Experience stores in Melbourne and Sydney last week.

Andy DiLallo, chief creative officer at Leo Burnett Sydney, said: "The Samsung Gear VR delivers a completely new way to experience immersive content using a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 – and the agency has pushed hard to create some absolutely awe-inspiring content to showcase it."
