GMS to staff up for Money Channel

Granada Media Sales has secured a sponsorship and air-time contract with The Money Channel, and will be looking for more sales staff to work across the new business.

with The Money Channel, and will be looking for more sales staff to work

across the new business.



The Money Channel, an AIM-listed television channel dedicated to

personal finance issues, will be broadcast next February on BSkyB’s

digital services.



It will operate 24 hours a day, including repeat programming and live

reports to correspond with the opening hours of the stock exchange.



George Cronk, deputy sales director of Granada Media Sales satellite and

cable division, said: ’We will draw on a large base of existing

advertisers to sell The Money Channel, but will also introduce new

financial advertisers to TV advertising.’



Cronk also confirmed that GMS are in talks with the Money Channel to

draw up a recruitment plan for additional sales staff to sell for The

Money Channel in coming months.



GMS&C sells television air-time and sponsorship for all Granada Sky

Broadcasting’s channels, Champions’ League football and other special

broadcasts on ONdigital.



The Money Channel, the brainchild of former pop star Adam Faith, is

contracting about 100 market and consumer finance specialists to provide

analysis for the programmes. The channel will offer viewers advice on

mortgages, credit card issues, pensions and insurance. The company also

plans to launch a website once the channel is up and running.



The new channel is 27 per cent-owned by directors Adam Faith and Paul

Killik, and 20 per cent-owned by investment bank, Schroders.



Since the deal, The Money Channel’s shares increased 37p to pounds 1.32

and the company is now valued at pounds 56 million.



The Money Channel’s chief executive Paul Killik said: ’This is our

second alliance with a major international media group in the past

month.



’It shows that The Money Channel’s powerful proposition for easy to

understand financial television programming continues to win industry

support.’
