Google wins Innovation Lion at Cannes for AlphaGo

Google Deepmind has won the Grand Prix at Cannes for Innovation for its board game-beating computer program, AlphaGo.

Google wins Innovation Lion at Cannes for AlphaGo

The tech giant’s London-based artificial intelligence division became the first program to beat a professional human player at the board game Go, which is considered harder for computers to win at than chess.

AlphaGo uses an algorithm to play moves based on a deep learning method of studying past moves by humans and computers.

There were three UK award winners in total for Innovation, which does not give gold, silver or bronze awards.

The Mill London won an Innovation Lion for "Blackbird", the first fully adjustable car rig that creates computer-generated car images.

And Jukedeck, the artificial intelligence music composition product, also picked up an Innovation gong.
