The move comes after 12 years with Bates UK, which will repitch for the account against three other agencies. Insiders say that the Halifax wants a campaign along the lines of Leagas Delaney's new work for Barclays, which emphasises the bank's size and resource.

Over the past 12 years Bates has developed well-known work including the famous "human house" and devised the strapline "get a little X-tra help" line.
