Havas' MPG scoops €150m Danone media account

LONDON - Havas' Media Planning Group has won Danone's €150m (£102m) French media planning and buying business.

The business, which includes Danone brands such as Evian, Volvic, Actimel and Danone yoghurts, was won from Aegis' Vizeum and Omnicom's OMD.

MPG already holds the Danone accounts in Spain and Mexico and the win is likely to reinforce the agency's attempts to win upcoming Danone's accounts in 15 other countries.

Carat holds the Danone UK media business, which is not currently up for review.

Danone was recently in the headlines when drinks giant PepsiCo was reportedly preparing a takeover bid for the group.

The French government came out against the reports in a round of economic patriotism, saying it would do all it can to shield Danone from a "hostile takeover bid".

However, Danone's chairman Franck Riboud that the group wished to remain independent and said that there had been no talks with PepsiCo.

Meanwhile, Havas chairman and corporate raider Vincent Bollore is quietly upping his stake in rival media agency Aegis and now holds 20.7% of the company.

Danone's creative account, held jointly by Omnicom's TBWA\Worldwide and WPP Group's Young & Rubicam, remains unaffected.
