Transco, the gas pipeline operator, has appointed HHCL & Partners

to boost its image with a multi-million pound corporate ad campaign.

HHCL won the account after a secret three-way creative pitch against J.

Walter Thompson and Leagas Delaney. HHCL’s joint venture, Michaelides &

Bednash, will handle the media strategy.

HHCL’s first work will break near Christmas with a pounds 3.5 million

TV, press, radio and poster campaign running through the winter and

explaining Transco’s role in the deregulated gas market.

Rupert Howell, HHCL’s managing partner, said: ’The win is wonderful but

the timing makes it even more special. It’s a huge task because Transco

supplies half of Britain’s energy needs and it’s important the general

public is aware of who is responsible for the supply of gas.’

Transco’s remit is the safe transportation of gas to 20 million industry

and domestic gas users through its network of gas pipelines and the

operation of the national gas emergency service.

A Transco spokeswoman said: ’We formally separated from British Gas in

February and the time is right for us to exploit our role with an

identity campaign.’
