HOTLINE: Downing Street announces BBC's chairman

Downing Street has announced the appointment of the Goldman Sachs

economist and the current deputy BBC chairman, Gavyn Davies, as the

BBC's chairman. His hiring is a blow to the Conservative Party, which is

against his appointment on the grounds that the BBC will be run by

Labour supporters. The BBC's director-general, Greg Dyke, is a former

Labour Party donor.
