The Government is to bring in tougher rules governing the advertising of consumer credit following complaints that the public is being confused. Patricia Hewitt, the trade and industry secretary, said "greater consistency and transparency" were needed so that consumers can compare financial products and make informed decisions. Her move came after a Mori survey for the Government showed that 76 per cent of people believed the language used in ads for consumer credit was confusing.
