HOTLINE: Under-secretary of state Charlotte Beers steps down

Charlotte Beers, the under-secretary of state for public diplomacy and public affairs in the George Bush administration, is stepping down following weeks of speculation. Beers, who was nicknamed "the most powerful woman in advertising" during her stint at Ogilvy & Mather, was criticised for her "shared values" campaign, which aimed to improve the image of the US in Muslim states.
