lined up for a top management position looking after Procter & Gamble at
Saatchi’s New York office. A Saatchi spokesperson said: ’There is no
position for Tamara in New York at present and she has not been offered
a job. We have a New York office and Tamara is a very serious
Carlton Communications has bought the independent production company,
Planet 24, in a deal worth around pounds 15 million. Waheed Ali, one of
the partners at the company alongside Charlie Parsons and Bob Geldof,
will join the Carlton Television board as managing director of Carlton
Simon Green, joint creative director at Partners BDDH, has signalled his
intention to pursue a career as a commercials director after his
contract runs out at the end of next year. He has already directed a
spot for Mercedes and says: ’I plan to melt myself into the position of
Kickers, the footwear brand owned by the Pentland Group, has taken its
advertising back in-house after just over a year working with Mother. A
new ’mega-site’ campaign will appear on the sides of landmark buildings
from the end of this month.
Airtours has drawn up a shortlist of agencies for its pounds 10 million
media account. Carat, MediaVest, Western International, Motive and
Zenith Media will all pitch for the account, which was previously held
by Media Principles, the media arm of Advertising Principles.
J. Walter Thompson has begun a search for a worldwide creative director
to replace Allen Thomas, who retires at the end of this year. The job
will be based at JWT’s Berkeley Square offices.
The Interpublic Group is seeking dollars 25 million in damages from the
former Lowe & Partners/SMS co-chairman, Marvin Sloves. He is accused of
breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty and fraud. The accusations
revolve around the agency’s loss of the Mercedes-Benz account.
News International is adopting a ’wait and see’ stance over whether it
will introduce a rival to Associated Newspapers’ London freesheet,
Metro, which launches next Monday. Depending on Metro’s success, NI will
reassess whether there is a market for such a product.
Justine Southall, ad director for IPC’s fashion and beauty group, has
taken voluntary redundancy following January’s announcement that the
publisher would cut 200 jobs. Southall will leave the company at the end
of next month, with no job to go to.
Bradford & Bingley Building Society will launch a national TV campaign
this weekend to persuade members not to vote in favour of conversion to
a stock market listed company at next month’s annual meeting. The
advertising is the first to be produced by M&C Saatchi since the agency
picked up the pounds 15 million account last year.
Clare Formon, the former Mellors Reay marketing manager who joined Grey
as marketing director when the shops merged last year, is to become
marketing director of Freud Communications, the Abbott Mead Vickers
group PR subsidiary.
