Mirror Group is set to appoint Kelvin MacKenzie, managing director of Live TV, to the new post of deputy chief executive and group managing director of Mirror Group. Frank Lowe, the chairman of the Lowe Group, is to take on the additional

role of chairman of Interpublic’s new sports marketing arm, Octagon. It

will initially comprise the sports marketing organisations, Advantage

and API Associates, in which Interpublic bought majority stakes last

spring.



Jeremy Miles, who has charge of pounds 80 million worth of BT business

at Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO as well as the pounds 3 million Economist

account, has been appointed a vice-chairman of the agency. Miles, 42, an

AMV staffer for 18 years and a one-time Campaign Face to Watch, is only

the sixth person to have had the title in the agency’s 20-year

history.



Alan Tilby has quit as executive creative director of Griffin Bacal, the

Omnicom-owned agency he joined 17 months ago. At 51, the former WCRS and

BMP creative chief plans to divide his time between project work and his

newly formed company, the Mobility Bureau, which helps provide equipment

for disabled people and assists charities in identifying fund-raising

gaps.



Oliver Cleaver, the managing director of MQI International Dusseldorf

and a member of CIA’s European holding board, has been appointed as

European media director of Kimberly-Clark. His appointment comes as the

company invites Universal McCann, Initiative Media, CIA Medianetwork,

MindShare and Carat to pitch for its pounds 40 million pan-European

media account.



BT has formally invited agencies to tender for its strategic media

planning account and the TV and cinema implementational planning and

buying business. The deadline for applications is 27 January. The press

buying account is not expected to be advertised until late summer.



Mirror Group has begun talking to creative agencies about the pounds 2

million relaunch of its racing daily, the Sporting Life. David Annat,

the managing director of the Mirror Group’s sports division, confirmed

that ’four or five’ advertising agencies, including the Mirror’s roster

agency, M&C Saatchi, would be invited to pitch within the next two

weeks. Media is expected to be handled by the Mirror Group’s media

agency, Zenith.



Walker Media has scooped the pounds 500,000 media planning and buying

account for the beauty product,Ultratone. The media schedule for the

account, previously handled by CIA Medianetwork, is focused on Sunday

magazines and style magazines.



Leo Burnett has promoted its Grand Prix-winning creatives, Nick Bell and

Mark Tutssel, to deputy executive creative directors. The art director,

Tutssel, and his copywriter, Bell, created ’skid marks’ for Mercedes,

which took the top print prize at Cannes last year. Reporting to the

executive creative director, Gerard Stamp, they will take more

responsibility for day-to-day running of the creative department.



Richard Hammond, a senior vice-president at Bozell Worldwide, has

resigned after ten years to ’pursue new opportunities in the

communications sector’.



BMP DDB will on Monday unveil a pounds 900,000, three-month television

campaign reminding mothers of the need to immunise their babies. Showing

a baby at risk on a cliff and crawling among lions, the commercial is

BMP’s first work since landing the Health Education Authority account

last year.



Richard Seymour, a director of the product design agency, Seymour

Powell, is up against Richard Mellor, the creative director of the

new-media specialist, Hyperinteractive, in the poll for this year’s D&AD

president-elect. The final day for voting is 29 January.
