financial adviser, to create a campaign that extends the company’s
appeal beyond the gay community. MBA’s work uses the line, ’outrageously
independent financial advice’, and one of the first executions features
the headline, ’Ironically, we think the others offer bum advice.’ Media

St Luke’s has declined to pitch for Bass Brewers’ pounds 5 million
Caffrey’s account, which leaves the shortlist as Roose & Partners, Leo
Burnett, DMB&B, Ogilvy & Mather and the existing Bass roster shop, the
Grey has hired a new account management heavyweight to be vice-president
on its petcare products around Europe. Susan Ball has spent the past
seven years working on Procter & Gamble and the previous four years on
Pillsbury for Leo Burnett in Chicago.
Clear Channel, the US media group whose bid for the UK poster
contractor, More Group, was topped by Decaux earlier this month, has
begun lobbying against the Decaux bid. Clear Channel has written to
British MPs saying that a Decaux/More merger would create a virtual
monopoly of the street furniture market.
Gulf Air, the national carrier of Bahrain, Oman, Qatar and Abu Dhabi, is
understood to be talking to UK agencies about its dollars 10 million
global advertising account. The review is being handled from Gulf’s
headquarters in Bahrain.
MSc, the strategic planning joint venture between New PHD and Partners
BDDH, has poached Anna Hill, an account manager at Western International
Media, to be media strategist and second in command to the agency’s
managing director, Louise Jones.
NBC is reviewing strategy and schedules for its NBC Europe cable and
satellite channel and is likely to give over a significant portion of
its airtime to the National Geographic Channel, in which it has a
Chris O’Shea, the creative partner of Banks Hoggins O’Shea, is to be the
chairman of the 1998 Aerial Awards, taking the helm from Robert
Campbell, the creative partner of Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe. O’Shea’s
first task is to select the 12-strong jury. The awards take place at
Bafta on 22 October and the closing date for entries is 10 July.
Renegade, the agency set up six months ago to combine advertising and
PR, has joined the Scottish Courage roster with an assignment to handle
a promotion for four of its brands - McEwan’s Export, McEwan’s Lager,
John Smith’s Bitter and Newcastle Brown Ale - during this summer’s World
Forte Hotels has dropped Publicis from its creative review, leaving WCRS
and Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe to go head to head for the pounds 10
million account, which includes TV advertising.
Black Cat is tipped to pick up the business portion of Cable &
Wireless’s below-the-line task following a pitch against three other
un-named agencies. Grey Integrated has won the consumer part of the
business (see story, page 8).
The Advertising Association has expressed concerned that possible new
rules governing baby milk advertising will effectively prevent
manufacturers communicating with their customers. The AA fears the
Government may be influenced by a report from the pressure group, Baby
Milk Action, accusing manufacturers of flouting World Health
Organisation codes through aggressive marketing to health professionals
Pifco, the electrical appliance and cookware manufacturer whose brands
include Russell Hobbs, Carmen and Tower, is talking to agencies about
the future of its advertising which is currently handled by J. Walter
Thompson in Manchester.

and buying for Swarovski UK, the British arm of the Austrian producer of
cut crystal stones, crystal giftware and fashion jewellery.
