Christine Walker, the founder of Walker Media, is expected to reach
agreement with her former employer, Zenith, this week over the contested
restrictive covenants in her contract. Walker is thought to be keen to
avoid a prolonged court battle while she attempts to get her new company
off the ground. Meanwhile, her name has been linked with a number of
major media accounts and some of the top names in the business. She
denies having any clients or staff to date (Interview, p4).
John Brown, managing director and founder of John Brown
Publishing, is handing over his managerial duties to Andrew Hirsch,
managing director of the company’s contract publishing business. Hirsch
becomes chief executive of both the contract and consumer divisions.
Brown, who becomes chairman of the two groups, plans to concentrate on
developing the company’s TV interests and international publishing
Tom Hudson, the former creative director of BST-BDDP, has not moved over
to the merged BDDP GGT agency. Hudson would not comment on his

Euro RSCG’s plans to link up with a global network have led to

RSCG network is not cash-rich, and a deal is likely to involve a share

Sainsbury’s has confirmed the appointment of Grey Brand Futures to a
’piece of qualitative research on the perception of its brand’. A
spokesman said Grey will canvass both staff and customers about brand
image, while the design company, 20-20, will conduct a brand audit on
Sainsbury’s stores and packaging.
Kimberly-Clark is reviewing its global feminine hygiene business,
currently handled by Ogilvy & Mather. The review will cover its Kotex
sanpro brands - which spent about pounds 1.2 million in the UK in the

fountain pen brand, Montblanc, from the incumbent, BBDO, after a

worldwide advertising for Iridium, an international consortium of
telecommunications and industrial companies, which plans to launch a
global wireless telecommunications network in 1998.
Jeffrey Archer is to star in the latest BT ad and will donate his fee to
charity. The commercial, through Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO, shows the
novelist making a phone call to a Hollywood producer. It breaks next
UKTV, the BBC/Flextech joint venture, is to launch a Preview channel on
satellite to promote its three new cable channels, UK Arena, UK
Horizons, UK Style. UKTV Preview will simulcast blocks of programming
from the new channels each morning from 7am.
