Graham Green, the chairman of Bates UK’s below-the-line agencies,
has resigned after a controversial spell at the helm lasting just over a
year. An internal memo issued on Wednesday announced that he would be
leaving ’after some difficult times’ on 26 May. It is not known whether
he has a job to go to.
Ladbrokes, the betting shop chain, has appointed Banks Hoggins
O’Shea/FCB to its advertising account following a competitive review.
Agencies were asked to pitch for the business, which was worth pounds 1
million last year, following the resignation of the account by J. Walter
Thompson earlier this year.
Discovery Networks Europe has appointed Starcom Motive Partnership to
its pounds 5 million media planning and buying account after a six-way
pitch which included the incumbent, Zenith Media.
BSkyB is bidding pounds 301.3 million for Sports Internet Group, the
sports website company, and has received acceptances for 51.5 per cent
of shares. Meanwhile, BSkyB has published its third-quarter results
which show that airtime advertising revenue increased by pounds 19
million to pounds 172 million.
Youngs Frozen Foods is holding a review of its creative advertising
account. The review was called after the incumbent, Grey, won the rival
Findus business last year. A shortlist is thought to have been drawn up
for the pounds 3 million account.
World Online, the pan-European internet service provider, has named the
high-profile Microsoft executive James Kinsella to succeed Nina Brink as
the chairman of the company. Kinsella is the president and chief
executive officer of MSNBC.com.
M&C Saatchi has scooped the pounds 3 million advertising account for the
soya milk brand So Good. The agency pitched against Publicis for the
business, which was previously held by Saatchi & Saatchi.
Alan Shepherd, the marketing director of Iceland, quit the supermarket
retailer on Tuesday.
Miranda Forestier-Walker, the former deputy planning director at Leo
Burnett, has been promoted to executive planning director. Mark
Stockdale, who has been with Burnetts for four years, has been appointed
strategic development director.
The shortlist of agencies pitching for Ask Jeeves, the internet search
engine, is understood to include Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R, HHCL
& Partners, TBWA GGT Simons Palmer and Delaney Lund Knox Warren &
WWF, the environment network, has appointed Saatchi & Saatchi to its
15-month Ocean Recovery campaign. The campaign, which will launch in
July, aims to highlight the plight of British marine species and the
M London, part of the new B COM3 communications group, has been
appointed to handle advertising for the healthcare website Medex.
Spirit has been appointed to handle the Carlton-owned food and drink
site SimplyFood.co.uk. The agency is launching a pounds 1 million
national press campaign based around a passion for food. It will be
followed by a TV campaign. The site, launched in December 1998, is part
of Carlton Online.
Rogue Films has added Sam Cadman to its portfolio of directors. Cadman,
whose previous work included Trigger Happy TV, has just completed his
debut work for Tango through HHCL & Partners. He will concentrate on
commercials and music videos at Rogue.
Keith Sands, BMP DDB’s long-serving traffic director, has died. He had
been with the agency for 16 years and had many friends within the
