Granada Sky Broadcasting has shortlisted three agencies for its Granada Plus account, which HPT Brand Response resigned earlier this year. Miles Calcraft Briginshaw Duffy, Osprey and Roose & Partners have all been briefed to pitch later this month and a result is expected by September.

British Midland is understood to have taken on WWAV Rapp Collins in a

consultancy role, fuelling speculation of a full-scale review of its

direct marketing. Navigator Responsive, the incumbent, has parted

company with the airline.



Starcom has appointed Laura Pope, formerly the marketing controller of

Leo Burnett, its new marketing director, and has promoted Agostino di

Falco to the post of strategic planning director.



Royal Mail is seeking agencies to work on its consumer direct marketing

business. The review of the account, which is held jointly by Joshua,

OgilvyOne and MBO Solutions, is statutory. The deadline for applications

is 3 September.



DP&A has landed the task to launch a loyalty programme for Forte Hotels

after a pitch against five undisclosed agencies. The campaign, due to

launch next year, will target previous and prospective guests across

Forte’s three brands, Le Meridien, Heritage and Posthouse.



Dixons, the electrical retail giant, is looking for a direct marketing

agency to replace Tequila Payne Stracey on its aftersales brand,

Mastercare. Two unnamed agencies are fighting head-to-head for the

business with a result expected imminently. Tequila last worked on the

account in September and claims the business has been dormant since. It

is understood that the agency was approached with a view to repitching

but declined.



BBC Worldwide and Granada Media have teamed up to form a new venture in

the US, GB Productions, which will produce US versions of original UK

comedy and drama series. Scott Siegler, president of Granada’s US

production business, will head GB Productions. Siegler said: ’Together

we can work towards becoming a major force in entertainment on this side

of the Atlantic’.



Partners BDDH has hired a creative team from TBWA GGT Simons Palmer,

Matthew Anderson and Steve Nichols, and appointed Neil Quick, an account

director on UDV at Lowe Howard-Spink, as a group account director. Kate

Waters, a planner, joins from Ammirati Puris Lintas.



The computer games publisher, Codemasters, has appointed the new agency,

Blue, to launch its titles this autumn, with media handled by Carat.

Blue’s first assignment will be LMA Manager, a football game endorsed by

the League Managers Association. Codemasters spent more than pounds 1

million on advertising last year.



WWAV Rapp Collins North has won the direct marketing for Pontin’s and

will undertake a multi-million pound customer acquisition and retention

drive. The agency pitched against three undisclosed shops and will begin

work immediately.



BCD&P has been appointed to handle ebop, an online youth brand. ebop

will launch a website offering music, news and magazine items on a range

of topics from films to fashion. It is also tying up with a record label

to allow consumers to create their ideal CD from a catalogue of

tracks.



Policy Publications, the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising and

the University of Luton have created a tool, Advertising Benchmark, to

help agencies work out their standing and performance against industry

norms. Agencies taking part fill in a questionnaire, which will be fed

into a database and the results printed out in a 20-page report.
