Singapore Airlines has appointed WPP-owned Lansdown Conquest to
handle its pounds 2 million UK business. The account, held in Singapore
by Batey Advertising, in which WPP has a 30 per cent stake, was
previously held by Court Burkitt & Company in the UK.
The Department of Health is understood to have reduced the shortlist of
agencies for the pounds 5 million nurses recruitment pitch to two -
D’Arcy and Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO.
Powernet Telecom, the newly launched internet service provider, is
seeing pitches from a number of northern-based agencies for a reported
pounds 8 million campaign for its Totalserve brand. It aims to recruit
one million customers before Christmas when millions of new PCs are
expected to be sold.
Matt Hazell and Jane Atkinson, the award-winning creative team best
known for their ’money saving tips’ campaign for McDonald’s through Leo
Burnett, are leaving the agency to go freelance.
Fallon McElligott has won the advertising account for the Flowers &

CIA Medianetwork’s new chief executive, David Wheldon, the former
president of BBDO Europe, is to join the board of CIA’s parent company,
Tempus. CIA has also appointed Pippa Smith, New PHD’s finance director,
as its UK finance director.

features a real-life Gary Lineker, again in ’no more Mr Nice Guy’ mode,

Gavin Caldwell, a chief executive of the regional press sales house, the
Word, has announced that he will step down in the new year. Commenting
on his departure, Caldwell said: ’I feel the time is right to move on
and explore other opportunities’
The London Court of International Arbitration is expected to rule in the
next few days on the dollars 60 million claim against Publicis by its
former global partner, True North. The US group is demanding
compensation for losses it says were sustained after a Publicis
restructure which enabled the companies to divorce.
Smarts, the Edinburgh-based agency, has been appointed to handle the
Scottish Claymores’ marketing and advertising account after a pitch

The South African agency accused of providing misleading information
about the amount of its equity in the hands of black shareholders when
it won the country’s Telekom account has been fined pounds 300,000 by
the Public Protector. Three rival shops lodged a joint complaint against
The Agency which, they claimed, had behaved improperly.
