Mother and Rocket have been appointed to handle the advertising for
Whitbread’s coffee shop chain, Costa Coffee. Mother pitched against two
fellow Whitbread roster agencies, Lowe Lintas & Partners and Bartle
Bogle Hegarty, for the business.
The Cannes International Advertising Festival will have its first Latin
American jury president this year. Marcello Serpa, the creative director
of Sao Paulo’s Almap/BBDO and a former Grand Prix-winner, will chair the
print and film juries. Media will be chaired by Starcom’s chief
executive, Jack Klues, and cyber by Tim Smith, the chief executive of
Red Sky Interactive, San Francisco.
Britannia Building Society has shortlisted three London agencies to
pitch alongside its Manchester-based incumbent for its pounds 4 million
account. Ogilvy & Mather, Walsh Trott Chick Smith and Miles Calcraft
Briginshaw Duffy are understood to be pitching alongside BDH TBWA for
MGM Studios has puts its media account up for review and invited
MediaVest, MindShare and MBS to pitch for the film, video and DVD
business. The incumbent agency is CDP Media.
New PHD has won the media planning account for Mars’ cat food brand,
Whiskas. The account was previously held by MediaVest. New PHD’s
appointment is a realignment after its sister agency, Abbott Mead
Vickers BBDO, picked up the creative account from M&C Saatchi in
Roose & Partners has picked up the advertising account for Vinopolis, a
wine-based tourist attraction near The Globe theatre in London. Equinox
retains media planning and buying.
The International Advertising Association has extended the 20 per cent
early bird booking discount for its London 2000 Congress until next
Campaign is a sponsor of the congress, which takes place 6-9 June.

A new consumer finance TV channel starts broadcasting on Sky Digital
next week. Simply Money is being launched by Invest TV and will
broadcast from seven to ten am on weekdays.
Worth Global Style Network, an online information service for the
fashion industry, has shortlisted M&C Saatchi, McCann-Erickson and
Delaney Lund Knox Warren to handle a profile-raising campaign in Europe,
the US and the Far East. The business is currently handled by Lowe
Walsh Trott Chick Smith has been appointed to help publicise a new
website for the TV production industry, called produxion.com. Launching
on Thursday, the site is a joint venture between Channel 5, netdecisions
and Emap. It aims to become a single source of information for the TV
production industry, and is supported by a press campaign.
MediaCom TMB has promoted Steve Allan from group managing director to
chief executive, taking over from Allan Rich, who remains as
Rich also takes on the role of vice-chairman of Europe.
The Barclay Brothers’ new-media operation, Net Media Group, has
appointed Agency.com to develop its e-business strategy. As part of the
deal it will build one of the first dedicated multi-lingual pan-European
business-to-business portals. The service will be initially launched in
the UK, France and Germany.
