Hyundai in talks with agencies about DM account

LONDON - The Korean car manufacturer Hyundai is talking to agencies about its below-the-line advertising business.

At present, the account is with the direct agency Clark McKay & Walpole. Hyundai is in the process of drawing up a long list, although it is unclear whether the incumbent agency will be included on it.

The review is not thought to affect the rest of the Hyundai roster. At present, the company uses Leagas Delaney for its above-the-line marketing. PHD and ZenithOptimedia UK take care of the company's media planning and buying.

Last October, Hyundai appointed the former Rolls Royce global marketing chief, Jim Campbell, as its new marketing director. This followed the sudden departure of his predecessor, Jonathon Spence, last June.

Campbell's first task was to oversee the introduction of a five-year warranty across the entire Hyundai range. The company first publicised the warranty last summer, via a £6m campaign by Leagas Delaney. The campaign was based around a TV execution, which used the Velvet Underground song 'I'm Sticking With You'.

Hyundai refused to comment, and Clark McKay & Walpole was unavailable for comment as Campaign went to press.

Hyundai, the largest car manufacturer in Korea, last month announced a series of improvements to the Elantra -- the company's most popular model
