His remit will see him oversee creative output, working primarily on the agency’s Shell account. Working, in Doha, Qatar, he will also offer local support to Imagination’s other clients such as Jaguar Land Rover and General Electric and focus on converting increasing demand from local clients into business.

Smith joins from international activation network Geometry Global where he worked as regional creative director of the MENA brand. His career in the Middle East began in 2007, when he was recruited to set up Oglivy Action in the region.

He has previously created campaigns for brands such as Coca-Cola, Glaxo Smith Klein, Unilever, McDonald’s, Mars and Diageo.

Patrick Reid, chief executive of Imagination EMEA, said: "We are committed to the MENA region so we are delighted to welcome Robin to the team. His wealth of experience and award-winning track record will ensure our clients receive world class, transformational creative work."

Smith added: "I’ve always admired the creative work from Imagination and they have been consistently at the top of the creative industry for decades. They are a world-class agency that I’m very proud to be working with in the Middle East."
