Incumbent Grey on alert as Skoda calls European ad review

Skoda has called a review of its pan-European advertising

arrangements and is talking to a number of UK agencies about the

task.

The UK business, which is handled by Fallon, will not be affected by the

review. Fallon has been invited to pitch for the pan-European business,

but it is not yet clear if the agency will participate. The incumbent on

the European business is Grey Worldwide.

The company is launching a new luxury car next year, which is thought to

have prompted the review. The concept car, called Montreux, was shown at

the Geneva Motor Show last month.

Sources say the review was also brought about by Skoda being unhappy

with Grey's creative product in certain European markets.

The media account, handled by MediaCom, will not be affected.

Fallon was appointed to Skoda's UK business in December 1999. Its use of

advertising to reposition the brand recently won it the accolade of

Campaign's Campaign of the Year.
