Independent Digital, the new media arm of the Independent newspaper, is targeting the US with a new website that is part of the company's strategy of extending the Independent brand into new markets.
The site, independenceavenue.com, has been launched on the back of research which shows heavy use of the Independent's UK site, Independent.co.uk, by US visitors.
The site comprises three main areas of news, UK and world; US presidential election coverage, with a distinctive British take; and an eclectic UK travel guide section.
Richard Withey, managing director of Independent Digital, said: " Our research has shown that the Independent site is heavily used by US citizens for its wide, unbiased and entertaining editorial. Whilst seeking to maintain that level of traffic, we also want to provide an even more relevant news resource for those web-savvy Americans who are looking for an international rather than US-centric approach to news and issues."
