Initiative Media has made three senior hirings as it continues its

bid to move further upstream in the communications process.

Initiative has poached Simon Foster, a managing partner at MindShare, to

take up the newly created role of communications director.

Foster will contribute to Initiative’s business strategy as well as

working on the agency’s Peugeot account. According to Initiative’s

managing director, Roy Jeans, Foster will also beef up the agency’s

direct marketing and relationship marketing credentials.

Foster has previously worked at Ogilvy & Mather Direct, the

geodemographics specialist, CACI, and at Channel 4 .

Initiative has also hired Steve Simpson, a director of OHAL, the

geodemographic mapping specialist, to work on its econometric and

modelling business.

Andris Umblijs joins the agency from Kellogg, where he was European

market research manager developing econometric modelling. At Initiative,

he will be director of worldwide analysis working in the Futures

division.

Jeffrey Merrihue, Initiative’s chief executive, commented: ’We’re

bringing in people from non-traditional media backgrounds to broaden our

offering.’

Jeans also promoted three existing staff to the Initiative board: Chris

Wright, the media director on Johnson & Johnson, Jayne Roseman, the

media director on Calvin Klein, and Alan Levy, the media director on

Peugeot.
