According to Intel the Black Eyed Peas singer is already working on music expressly for the chip maker, suggesting the prospect of a new version of its familiar 'bom bom bom bom' sonic identity.

The collaboration may also include projects covering devices such as laptops, smartphones and tablets, while an Intel spokesman would not rule out Will.i.am appearing in an Intel ad.

Deborah Conrad, Intel's chief marketing officer, said: "It's imperative that Intel and our innovations are kept in front of the global youth culture that embraces new devices and new forms of communication and entertainment."

Will.i.am said: "Teaming up with the scientists, researchers and computer programmers at Intel to collaborate and co-develop new ways to communicate, create, inform and entertain is going to be amazing."
