The account, which will be handled by Cheshire-based McCann Erickson Communications House, covers the hotel chain's Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express and Crowne Plaza brands.

The brief includes advertising, direct marketing, digital and point of sale activity. A marketing push will also support the global redesign of its Holiday Inn brand - the first time it has revamped its logo in 50 years.

The pitch was called in March following the arrival late last year of Christopher Hale as vice president of marketing and commercial for EMEA from Virgin Media.

Brett Gosper, the McCann Erickson EMEA president, said: "This is a significant win for us and it's exciting to be partnering with IHG at this time as they continue to build on their worldwide growth and success."

The appointment does not affect the status of IHG's media agency Carat.
