IPC Connect hires sales staff for Now’s standalone team

Following its ground-breaking decision to create a separate sales

operation for Now last month, IPC Connect has appointed Lucy Begley to

head the new team.

Begley, 25, joins IPC on 4 October as ad manager from Premier Magazines

and will report to IPC Connect’s ad director Janey Pilkington.

Now is the first IPC Connect title to have its own dedicated sales

division.

The move is designed to capitalise on renewed media-buying interest

stimulated by the recent growth of the celebrity magazine sector, which

includes OK! and Hello!. The sector bridges a gap between women’s

weeklies and glossy monthlies.

Group advertising sales director Simon Hills said: ’We weren’t doing Now

any justice by selling it with the weeklies. It is the right sort of

environment for toiletries, cosmetics and lifestyle categories and

deserves to have a separate identity and a dedicated sales team.’

Rachel Stevens has joined the Now team from IPC Connect and a third

member is being sought. Stevens’ replacement on the Connect team has yet

to be recruited.
