International Poster Management (IPM) is courting rival poster

buying specialists with a view to beefing up its UK operations.

Interpublic-owned IPM has approached most of the UK’s specialists but is

said to have sat down for talks with the independent Poster Publicity

about a merger or alliance.

However, IPM chief executive Chris Morley denied it favoured PP,

stating: ’We’ve had talks with just about everyone.’

At the same time, speculation was rife last week that WPP, which owns

Portland Group, is buying a stake in outdoor giant Alban Group which

owns Concord, Outdoor Connection, Outdoor Focus and Blade, and another

alliance could be in the offing. Both parties refused to comment on the

speculation.

An industry insider said the sector was gripped by ’merger mania’.

’The consolidation of agencies and media owners has had a knock-on

effect with the outdoor specialists. There are only four or five left

and more mergers are expected next year.’
