ITC bans Euro RSCG ad for using speed as a sales platform

cPeugeot's TV ad campaign featuring a magician entertaining passers-by has been banned because of its emphasis on speed.

The Independent Television Commission felt that Euro RSCG Wnek Gosper's ad for the Peugeot 206 GTi breached its code, which states that speed is not an acceptable platform for car ads.

In the ad, a magician performs a card trick, then climbs into a Peugeot, which accelerates out of view. A voiceover says: 'The Peugeot 206 GTi. Now you see it, now you don't.'

The ITC's decision that this ad could not be shown in the same form again was prompted by one complaint that the ad could strengthen the belief that speeding is acceptable.

Chupa Chups Lollipops' ad by MO-JO HDM received the most complaints in the ITC's September report. It showed a man snatching a lollipop from a woman by stamping on her foot while dancing. Complainants were concerned that this ad set a bad example to children. The ITC upheld the complaint.
