Two new positions have been created in the wake of his departure. ITV has appointed Patrick Ugeux, a former manager at the strategy consultancy Marakon Associates, as its new director of marketing strategy. He will report directly to the marketing and commercial strategy director, Clare Salmon.
ITV is also recruiting for a second position - that of advertising development director. The new role will have a brief to extend ITV's advertising beyond spot work and strengthen its advertiser relationships. This post reports directly to the commercial director, Ian McCulloch.
ITV's restructure comes after weeks of speculation that Sampson was on the brink of leaving. It was widely expected that he would fill the vacant chief executive role at the commercial TV marketing body Thinkbox, which he played a key role in forming.
However, Sampson is also leaving his position as the chairman of Thinkbox.
He is considering a number of new job opportunities.
