John Brown Publishing is celebrating the fifth anniversary of the

consumer magazine, Gardens Illustrated, with the launch of a sister

publication, Food Illustrated, in March.

The glossy, photo-led title, which is aiming for a stable circulation of

60,000, will be edited by Neale Whitaker, launch editor of John Brown’s

Debenhams magazine and Ikea’s Room magazine.

The 132-page, perfect-bound title will cost pounds 2.95 and is aimed at

ABC1 30- to 44- year-olds. Its initial run will be just over 100,000.

Advertising will take up about 30 per cent of pagination.

Food Illustrated enters a sector in which the market leaders,

Sainsbury’s Magazine and BBC Good Food, suffered a fall in sales in the

January-June ABC period.

But the group’s chairman, John Brown, commented: ’The whole package will

be completely different to anything on the market now.’
