John Brown Contract Publishing is to produce the first customer

magazine for Esporta Health and Fitness Clubs.

Esporta launches on 14 June as a glossy lifestyle magazine and will

reflect the health clubs’ ’feel good about life’ philosophy.

Editorial content will concentrate on fashion, beauty, health, food,

travel, entertainment and celebrities.

The editor is Sarah Wharton, the former deputy editor of the Debenhams

magazine, another John Brown title.

The print run of 120,000 will be distributed to Esporta’s predominantly

AB female membership as well as members of other gyms in the group such

as Esprit.

The 84-page first issue will carry 25 pages of advertising, which will

be sold by ad manager Sheila Mechan. She is mainly targeting cosmetics

and clothing advertisers.

Meanwhile, John Brown has announced the expansion of its Ikea customer

magazine into Italy, Spain, Germany and France. The move takes the

worldwide print run of Ikea Room to 2,371,000, including the US and UK

editions.

The magazine is distributed quarterly to Ikea card holders and is sold

in Ikea stores and on newsstands.

The 100-page European editions will carry around 20 pages of advertising

sold locally by Gruner & Jahr in Germany, Publicat in France, Global

Communications in Spain and International Advertising Network in

Italy.

However, global deals will be done in London through Michael Stanton,

who was recently appointed group advertisement manager for Ikea Room and

the Orange customer magazine.

The European launches of Ikea Room will be completed by the end of the

summer.

Chief executive Andrew Hirsch claimed that the Ikea title has one of the

largest circulations in the home interest sector worldwide.
