John Brown sells Gardens Illustrated to BBC Worldwide

BBC Worldwide’s homes and gardens portfolio is to be bolstered with the acquisition of John Brown Publishing’s Gardens Illustrated.

BBC Worldwide’s homes and gardens portfolio is to be bolstered with

the acquisition of John Brown Publishing’s Gardens Illustrated.

The deal is to be completed on chairman John Brown’s return from the US

this week.

Although BBC Worldwide may hire at least one of the two sales executives

on Gardens Illustrated, it is unlikely to need its publisher

Marie-Louise McLeod or its ad manager Elisa Haynes.

Gardens Illustrated’s upmarket approach will complement the more

practical format of BBC Gardener’s World - the market leader.

The design-led title will bring in lifestyle advertising and will be

sold alongside BBC Good Homes and BBC Homes & Antiques.

Gardens Illustrated is published ten times a year and has a first-half

ABC of 40,297. Around 17,000 of the copies are sold overseas.

The proceeds from the sale can be diverted into the launch of John

Brown’s Bare.
