Contract publisher John Brown is to handle the world-wide expansion
of Ikea Room magazine.
The Swedish furniture giant has plans to launch the title in 18
international markets including the US, France, Germany, Italy, Spain
John Brown’s publishing director, Dean Fitzpatrick, has set up a New
York office in preparation for the US version, which launches on 6
October with a distribution of 12 million copies. He is looking for an
advertisement manager to oversee Ikea Room’s sales department and chase
The company will introduce Ikea Room into Germany next March. It will be
published by John Brown with advertising sold by a local sales house,
K&S, which is owned by Gruner & Jahr.
The French edition will be published by the Magazine Factory, a joint
venture between John Brown and Cobra. Sales houses for the other two
editions will be appointed shortly.
John Brown is also looking for an international sales executive based in
London to work across all overseas editions, which will have a combined
distribution of three million copies.
On the consumer side, John Brown is increasing Viz’s frequency from
bi-monthly to monthly from early next year. The publisher is trying to
gain more ad revenue for Viz by pitching it to agencies together with
John Brown is paving the way for an increase in frequency by publishing
Viz Gold special editions, in the months in between Viz. Last month’s
Viz Gold special, devoted to Sid the Sexist, is to be followed by a Fat
Slags special in mid October.
