"Sausage Nonnas" from Droga5 tour Chicago in tiny homes on wheels
Johnsonville Sausage teamed up with Uber yesterday to deliver more than 100 meals cooked by real Italian grandmothers in Chicago.
Traveling in customized tiny homes hauled by the car service, the "Sausage Nonnas," as the campaign promoting "Sausage Sundays" from Droga5 is called, dropped off free homemade meals made with the sausage to Uber users who requested them in the car-service app between 2pm and 6pm yesterday.
Uber customers could choose to receive a meal from Gina, Lidia or Antonia, who served up their sausage-based spaghetti and meatballs, lasagna or rigatoni specialties. The women are each featured in videos averaging 90-seconds talking about their lives and "the world’s most elite sausage delivery service" on a Johnsonville microsite, which also gives visitors the recipes for the meals.
Although "Sausage Nonnas" was billed as a one-time service, Droga5 said the promotion was so well received, Johnsonville is not ruling out another "Sausage Sunday" event with the "Nonnas" in the future.
The agency has been serving up funny family-themed stories around meals made with sausage since winning the Johnsonville business last year. The agency’s first campaign for the brand earlier this year explored the unexpected ways Johnsonville brings people together with the tagline, "We don’t make sausage. We make family. And sausage."
