JWT London hands social channels over to private schoolgirls

J Walter Thompson is putting its social channels in the hands of the four private schoolgirls who won its Young Tribes Day pitch contest in honour of International Women's Day.

Called the JWTeen Two Week Takeover (#JWTeenTakeOver), the 15- and 16-year-old girls from Streatham & Clapham High School will take over the agency’s Twitter and Facebook channels for two weeks, creating their own content and copy.

With some guidance from the agency, Alice, Neisha, Eve, and Kachanda (last names withheld to protect their privacy) will frankly discuss how gender issues affect their everyday lives.

As an example, the girls are set to interview their local MP, Chuka Umunna, about female issues and what International Women’s Day means to his political views. 

The girls were selected via the Young Tribes diversity and inclusion programme, which saw JWT staff present to year ten girls from a mix of academy state schools and private schools.

Young Tribes culminated in December at an all-day event at JWT’s offices where 38 year ten participants tackled a live brief for Wagamama with the help of JWT mentors. The challenge was won by the team from Clapham & Streatham High School who are participating in the JWTeenTakeOver.

James Whitehead, chief executive, JWT London, said: "The winning team from Clapham and Streatham showed great potential for a career in advertising. We wanted to give them the platform to continue creatively expressing this."
