K Advertising has won the Sock Shop advertising account on the back
of a Valentine’s Day promotion, starring the page three
girl-of-the-moment, Melinda Messenger.
The promotion breaks on Valentine’s Day in the Sun. It shows Messenger
wearing a pair of heart-patterned socks, and is backed by a special
offer to encourage consumers to go to Sock Shop.
The retail chain, which used to be part of the ill-fated Facia group,
has not worked with an advertising agency since it was bought out from
the receivers by the Tulchar Group last year. The appointment follows
several months of informal talks with the chief executive of the Tulchar
Group, Peter Ridsdale.
Hamish Pringle, chairman and chief executive of K Advertising, said:
’Sock Shop is a brand that grew rapidly in the 80s and now needs a 90s
update. We are planning a few more surprises to refresh the Sock Shop
name and keep it fashionable.’
