Katz, the media sales house, is restructuring its management team
and moving out of TV airtime sales as it prepares to concentrate its
business base on radio and international media.
There is a new management line-up beneath the chief executive, Simon
Lynds, with David Foreman heading the radio division, Bridget McCarney
taking charge of the international business and David Goffin assuming
the new role of commercial director.
Clare MacDonald, the head of Katz TV, is expected to leave the company
by the end of the year as Katz winds down its TV airtime sales
Katz handles spot sales for Harmsworth Media’s Channel One and
Performance cable channels, Asianet, Knowledge TV and advertising
airtime on the Nynex cable franchises and the London Interconnect group
of cable operators.
Now Katz has decided to review its TV business and is looking for
strategic alliances with at least one ITV sales house to take on its
spot sales contracts.
Lynds explained: ’Given that the cable TV market is still exceptionally
small and fragmented, we feel it’s prudent to focus on our core business
of radio and international media. But we don’t want to withdraw from TV
completely. We’re in discussion with our TV clients so that Katz will
continue to be part of their commercial development.’
Lynds will now be freed up to develop the Katz business through a number
of joint ventures and acquisitions that are being explored. Joint
ventures in radio in Germany, Norway and Poland are being discussed.
