Bowden-Doyle will take a downgraded role at the company and will not take a role on the board. He reports to Ian McCaig, chief operating officer of the online travel sales company.
Bowden-Doyle was group development director and managing director of Accoladia, the upmarket holiday brand. Before joining Thomas Cook, he was chief operating officer of TheTrainline.com, managing director of Thomson Holidays in 1996 and marketing director of Lunn Poly in 1993.
Brent Hoberman, Lastminute chief executive officer, said: "Richard has an excellent track record of delivering high levels of customer satisfaction and successful business management at the highest level and it's great to have him on the team."
Lane Fox stepped down from her role in November after seeing Lastminute post its first full-year pre-tax profit. She remains as a non-executive director and major shareholder, and is reported to be in talks to take a role at Selfridges.
