Web design company Lateral has bought a stake in broadband firm Mediumrare following winning a contract to develop broadband digital channels for an unnamed telecoms company.

Lateral will tap Mediumrare's team of five for help on the broadband projects, and Mediumrare will have access to Lateral and its other partner, Lshift for its own work.

Mediumrare has worked on BBC Online and developed various websites, and the move means it now has access to Lateral's clients, which include Levi Strauss, Nationwide and Granada Media.

Mediumrare creative director Christian Nouyou said: "The deal enables us to use the infrastructure to focus on design rather than paperwork. It's an obvious route for us to take."

He added that his team of five would concentrate on developing the front-end of projects, leaving the technical know-how to LShift.
