From today (25 April) customers at its 26 London stores can treat someone else – a friend, a family member or even a stranger – to a surprise gift.
People can purchase a Pay It Forward card at the counter, which will be loaded with a free coffee, dinner for two or Le Pain Quotidien baking class. The recipient will then be encouraged to pass on a good deed to another person.
As part of the initiative, Le Pain Quotidien will be donating £5 to charity FoodCycle for every masterclass session purchased. FoodCycle provides free meals to local communities made from ingredients that would otherwise be thrown away.
Upcoming sessions include a pastry class on Thursday (27 April) and 10 May, which will celebrate the opening of Delacroix and the Rise of Modern Art at the National Gallery.
Here, attendees will learn about French pastry and hear about Delacroix's life from art historian Ben Street.
This year marks the sixth Pay It Forward day, and organisers are hoping to inspire more than 10 million random acts of kindness.
Fellow chain Pret a Manger announced a pop-up in London this June that will only serve vegetarian food.
