The chief executive of Leeds United has joined Emap’s Radio Aire as
non-executive director.
As part of a drive to build the football club’s media profile, Peter
Risdale will join the board, linking the radio station to its sports
activities.
Leeds United is affiliated to BSkyB, which owns a 9 per cent share of
Leeds United.
The timing also coincides with the Radio Aire’s applications for digital
licences. The station has applied for both the Liverpool and Leeds
digital multiplex licences, to be awarded early next year.
’As two organisations we have a lot in common and we can both benefit
from the affiliation. I would say that Leeds United is a sporting,
leisure, entertainment and media synergy and this combination also
describes Radio Aire,’ said Risdale.
Risdale is the second football club chairman to join the board; the
first was Sir Rodney Walker, chief executive of Leicester City.
Radio Aire, part of the Emap On Air group, broadcasts 93.3 Aire FM and
Magic 828. The station’s main competitors include BBC Radio Leeds and
Galaxy radio.
