Legal & General has launched an extranet service for independent

financial advisors.

Legal & General’s IFA Centre offers the two main functions that L&G’s

research found IFAs most wanted from such a site: pension policy

information and a business-tracking device, with more features available

on the password-protected part of the site.

According to Neeta Patel, L&G’s head of electronic commerce, IFAs will be

conducting most of their business online within two to three years.

”We developed this extranet after repeated requests from IFAs using our

services for us to provide information about our products online,” she

said.

”They had a lot of routine, paper-based information to wade through, and

having it online will save them a lot of time and money. For example, the

business-tracking device lets IFAs find out what stage a pension

application is at. Most paperwork has to go through a number of different

departments internally, and at the moment IFAs have to phone our

call-centre to find out how things are getting on. IFAs are, of course,

independent in their work, so we can’t expect to win customers through

this. However, if there’s nothing to choose between different policies,

then the convenience and closer relationship this extranet offers might

begin to count.”
