Between the Lines: Coffee shops come of age

At the moment, geography seems to be the main determining factor in where consumers go to buy their skinny lattes.

Advertising from the main high-street coffee retailers - Starbucks, Costa and Nero - is thin on the ground, but Costa has decided to buck the trend and hire an agency (page 3).

Better late than never. The likes of McDonald's and BP have been backing their coffee offers with ad campaigns for some time now, and the high-street specialists risk losing share unless they take action.
