Between the Lines: COI roster too good to miss

News that COI Communications is reviewing its roster (page 1) is guaranteed to get virtually every agency of ambition slavering. With a bulging purse of £167 million, COI is one of the biggest clients in the UK. More than that, it is also one of the most prestigious names on any client list, conferring as it does prestigious establishment credentials.

So the idea that COI might take the review of its creative agency pool as an opportunity to inject some younger blood into its roster is welcome news, particularly for those newer agencies wondering how they will know when they have really arrived.

The news that the errant Department for Transport is willing to meet COI halfway and participate in the concurrent media review represents another step forward; it is a testament to the diplomacy of COI's chief executive, Alan Bishop, and his deputy, Peter Buchanan. The COI pitches will undoubtedly be some of the most interesting and hotly contested of 2005.
