Between the Lines: Is silver screen tarnished?

Debbie Chalet is leaving Carlton Screen Advertising after ten years of sterling service (page 2).

It seems she is carrying the can for declining revenues as ITV turns to Matthew Kearney, the former head of Carlton's new-media division.

But cinema is in decline, albeit relatively slight, in terms of ad revenues and admissions and it's hard to know where extra income will come from. Ownership of cinemas is consolidating into large chains, which are demanding tougher revenue guarantees from the sales houses.

Good luck to Chalet's successor in convincing new advertisers to bring their spend to the sector.
