Lowe reshuffles top-level management line-up

LONDON - Lowe has announced a senior management restructure following a disastrous 12 months of account losses at the agency. Part of the restructure will see Paul Weinberger, the chairman and chief creative officer of Lowe in London, promoted to chief creative officer for Europe.

Weinberger, who also joins the ten-strong Lowe & Partners Worldwide board, will report to Adrian Holmes, the Lowe Worldwide chief creative officer. The move gives greater freedom to Lowe's newly promoted London creative directors, Damon Collins and Tony Barry.

Paul Edwards, the chief executive of Lowe & Partners UK, will take greater control of the flagship ad agency -- as revealed in Campaign earlier this month -- by adding the role of chairman of the London agency to his remit.

Despite having a group role overseeing Lowe's five subsidiary operations, Edwards -- who joined in July 2001 from the Henley Centre -- has had limited influence over the London ad agency. But this appointment marks a clear change of intention, designed to offer support for Chris Thomas, the agency's chief executive.

The announcement completes a restructure begun in the wake of Lowe's resignation of its £43 million Orange account and loss of about half of its Vauxhall business. John Lowery, the agency's vice-chairman, is leaving the agency.

Meanwhile, the board account director Matt Edwards has been promoted to new-business director, maintaining responsibility for Stella Artois. He replaces Sarah Gold, who is joining Clemmow Hornby Inge.

In addition, Russ Lidstone has been made the deputy planning director, reporting to the planning director, Joanna Bamford.

Jerry Judge, the chief executive of Lowe & Partners Worldwide, said of Weinberger: "This is a well-deserved promotion. Paul has been with the London agency for 19 years and creative director for ten."

Commenting on Edwards' promotion, Tim Lindsay, the president of Lowe & Partners Worldwide, said: "Paul brings a strong strategic background and a wealth of experience to the London agency."
