The inaugural event, produced by Artichoke and supported by the Mayor of London, will see Piccadilly, Jermyn Street, Regent Street, Carnaby, Oxford Circus and Mayfair host a series of light installations by renowned international artists.
Leicester Square will be transformed into an exotic tropical garden with giant, illuminated plants and flowers by the French artists Tilt, coined Garden of Light.
Within Carnaby, British artist Julian Opie will unveil a double-sided monolith piece titled Shaida Walking, which will become a permanent fixture within the district once the festival ends.
American artist Janet Echelman’s 1.8 London aerial sculpture made of knotted twine, which is inspired by the 2011 Japanese tsunami, will hang overhead at Oxford Circus, and a red phone box will be transformed into an aquarium complete with goldfish at Mayfair.
Jermyn Street will showcase French artist Cedric Le Borgne’s larger-than-life human figures, which will be placed on and around buildings, meanwhile the installations at both Piccadilly Street and Regent Street remain under wraps.
Local retailers, restaurants, entertainment venues and hotels will provide a range of offers throughout the festival, and some brands are also set to be involved. Details of these will be released in due course, and the full event programme is to be announced in January.
