Madden will also take on the new role of strategy director at the Omnicom network Zulu, using his skills to advise clients on integrated strategy.
He takes over the day-to-day running of the direct marketing agency from 22 January and will report to the chairman, Jon Claydon, and Martin Brooks, the chief executive of Agency Republic and Zulu.
Madden will work alongside Claydon Heeley's managing director, Mike Welsh, who has overseen the agency since the former chief executive, Nigel Jones, left in 2005.
"We weren't actively looking for a chief executive, but when Thierry Henry becomes available, you don't hang about," Claydon said. "He is one of the few who could combine the chief executive role with the strategy role."
