Major search engines join MSN

- Microsoft has announced another stage of development for its portal site, MSN.com, as AltaVista, Infoseek, Lycos and Snap pay Microsoft a combined $60 million for a place alongside Microsoft's own search technology on its portal site.

The agreement amounts to Microsoft's largest strategic partnership to date; the site is currently in beta at MSN.com and home.microsoft.com. The search partnerships are expected to launch as the site goes officially live in early October.
